What is My Mission in Life?
There are times in all of our lives when we literally don’t know which way to go, which road to choose, when we stand at the crossroads. Times when we feel powerless in the face of circumstances. It feels we are doing what we have to do to survive, not what we want to do. There are other times when we actually feel overwhelmed by the rear luxury of too many choices, but it only reminds us of our own lack of direction.
I think it’s safe to say that what this confusion really boils down to is a sense of purpose and mission. If you don’t know what you are doing with your life, it is hard to make informed and consistent choices. It is hard to thrive, and it is hard to manifest, because without a sense of purpose the natural tendency is to choose the path of least resistance. We just float hoping to survive putting in the least possible effort, with least possible damage.
But it never feels right.
In my work in the Akashic Records, and in the healing sessions that I do, the majority of my clients come from a soul group that is specifically all about mission. As a consequence, many of these souls have a very strong sense of purpose, often since early childhood — I am here to do something important! — but because of their soul history they frequently also have major difficulties translating their purpose into a 3D life.
Without getting into too many details – obviously each call and mission are highly individual – what are the clues that tell us about our life purpose? How can we know what we came here to do?
One way of answering this question is to really go deep within, and ask yourself: “If there was one thing I could change about the world, what would it be?”
If there was one thing I could change about the world, what would it be?
This doesn’t need to be a specific social, political or environmental issue. Sometimes our mission is very subtle, not easily quantifiable. More often than not, it is too big to comprehend in this reality.
Think about what you were struggling with the most when you were a child? What would you have “fixed” about your growing up, about your family, your environment? Where was the greatest lack? What did you miss the most?
From my perspective, as souls, we choose the family and the country/ethnicity to be born into. While much can be said about soul amnesia and not remembering our former glory when we incarnate, the circumstances we were born into, no matter how challenging, also tell us what our soul had wanted to heal in the world.
Think about it. You chose to leave the glory of God, the freedom of the Universe, the ability to live without time, and space, and borders, you chose to constrict yourself into this body and reality in order to transform something within yourself – and within the world.
Some of us were born into loveless families, some of us chose to incarnate in war zones, or places of great economic inequality. Some have chosen tragic ancestries, family histories, or broken people as parents. All of us probably felt like we didn’t belong, and couldn’t figure out what we were doing on this planet.
And yet, when we turn this around, when we realize that this is precisely what we came here to do, the transformation can begin. Because as we start healing these inherited and acquired wounds within ourselves, we also start healing them for our countries, families and ancestries. In other words, we step more fully into our mission…
When we unplug more and more from the collective, heal the wounds that keep us small and step more fully into our power, the mission begins to unfold. But the first step is very often just to jump into it without knowing what the future will bring. It may mean simply having the courage to face your demons and go deeply into healing. It is actually very often just that. And as we go more deeply in reclaiming our power, we realize that we have been on mission all along…
