  • Understanding the Link: Womb, Heart and Throat Connection

Did you know that there is a direct energetic connection between your womb, heart and throat?

The vishuddha and svadhistana chakras, the throat and the womb, are twinned together. They are the gateways to the higher and lower realms respectively, openings into the Upper World of the Spirit, and the Lower World of our ancestors and earth magic. The heart is the portal that unites them and transmutes their energy and information into conscious awareness.

The sacral chakra (svadhistana) governs creativity and attraction, including the ability to attract and keep romantic partners. It also governs the capacity to receive pleasure and financial abundance. In the physical body, the sacral chakra corresponds to the womb, the organ of creation and gestation.

The throat chakra, vishuddha, governs our ability to express the creative impulses and ideas that originate in the womb. The lesser known function of the throat chakra is its function as a sort of a cosmic decoder — it processes information in the form of code. In other words, the throat chakra is in charge of our capacity to receive and convey information.

Too much information (including too much theoretical knowledge) can block the throat chakra, and thus also prevent this information from reaching more embodied levels of our being. You know the feeling — the lethargy and disconnectedness after having consumed too much book knowledge, or having mindlessly scrolled through social media for hours

Throat Chakra Blocks

When our creative expression is blocked, the reason is often because we feel it is unsafe to be who we are. Girls especially are often brought up being told to be quiet, to not be so impulsive, to not be “too much.” They are taught to shut up, to focus on being beautiful and pleasing to the eye, but no matter how hard they try it is never enough.

In our society, women are implanted with a persistent inner voice that tells them to be someone else. They are never thin enough, beautiful enough, smart enough. They are not loud enough or quiet enough. They are never dressed right. Many choose to become more energetically “masculine” to adapt the the demands of the professional world. Others resort to manipulation and narcissistic behavior to get what they want.

If creative expression is blocked, the reason is often because we feel it is unsafe to be who we are.

Such upbringing very literally chokes women’s voices. It doesn’t simply block expression and clear communication. Many women are suffering from thyroid issues, especially later in life, closer to menopause. In elder cultures, women past child-bearing age were considered wise matriarchs, leaders who have integrated divine wisdom and practical knowledge. They no longer needed the cycle of death and rebirth to manifest in their physical bodies. Now they were complete, and could impart this embodied wisdom to others.

I am sure you don’t need me to tell you that this is not how our society views older women.

Because the throat chakra expresses the creative power of the womb, manifesting abundance in finances and relationships often feels like an impossible struggle, as well. The societal template tells women they can only succeed if they become like men. And so they struggle, fight and hustle, forcing unmanageable stress onto their bodies and endocrine systems. But abundance and happy relationships are still out of reach.

To clear this block, many women need to learn how to use their voice again. To sing, scream, yell, chant. To join a choir, take singing lessons, scream in a pillow every evening, to sing along to the radio in the car. To tone the chakras and sing mantras. To come to know their own voices intimately, and to be comfortable using them.

Recognizing that persistent “not enoughness” is just a program running on repeat, like a stuck tape, is the first step to clearing throat chakra blocks at the core level. The journey to accepting ourselves is a much longer one.

The Womb and Blocks to the Flow of Abundance

Because of the inseparable connection between the womb and the throat, many blocks to abundance and self-expression also originate in the pelvis. Our womb is a reflection of the cosmic womb, the dark matter, the ever-creating and ever-destroying Source. The womb holds the key to the essence of the Divine Feminine and its power of manifestation.

Trauma stored in our womb may completely block this divine flow. It is especially true of the trauma of sexual abuse. On the mind-body level, childhood sexual abuse may lead to throat issues such as adenoids, frequent sore throats, loss of voice or problems with vocal cords. These problems may be chronic, or arise after a trigger, such as a soul relationship or a challenging time in life.

Pelvic pain, inflexible hips and lower back pain are all manifestations of the same blocks at the womb level. Our grief, pain and self-hatred are stuck in the hips. Frequency-wise, these womb-level blocks are like a brick wall that prevents energy from grounding. We may be overly emotional and highly sensitive, but we can’t sit still and wait, we can’t receive and can’t create lasting happiness in relationships.

Womb and Throat: Divine Twins

In the earliest stages of gestation, the fetus presents with a female reproductive system. It is only later on in gestation that the clitoris grows into a penis for men, and the yoni opening closes, becoming a scrotum. Put in simple terms, we are all female in the beginning of our gestation. The separation into genders begins after a while.

The relationship between the uterus and the throat begins in the womb around the 15th day of gestation. At this stage, two cavities are formed. One will eventually form the throat and the mouth, and the other will become the membrane of the excretory system. Eventually, it will form the orifices of the urinary, reproductive and digestive tracts. As the embryo grows, the two cavities remain connected, while more and more complex tissue evolves between them.

When our body experiences stress or trauma, we clench our jaws, and often also tense our pelvic area. The hips and pelvis store anger and frustration — something many a yoga student has learned, after breaking out in unexpected tears during hip stretches. We tighten our hips, clench our jaws and grind our teeth in frustration.

It is good to become aware of this connection, both physical and energetic. As a belly dance teacher, I often notice how women’s personality and self-confidence transforms as they begin loosening up their pelvis. And when they begin to smile and relax their jaws and facial muscles, their pelvis becomes even more relaxed and fluid.

The Heart: the Healing Bridge

On the energetic level, we can look at the throat chakra as our connection to the 5th dimension of information (including the Akashic Records), whereas the sacral chakra is our connection to the 3D Earth, its fruits and its pleasures.

The throat chakra is high-frequency, impartial, beyond emotions, and capable of reading the “code of creation.” It is our key to decoding information and translating it into human language. The sacral chakra is sensual, earthy, and holds the keys to pleasure and enjoyment. It is also our connection to Earth and its electromagnetic field. The sacral chakra therefore also holds the codes of personal magnetism and attraction.

The connection between these two centers occurs in the heart. The heart maintains the balance between pleasure and restraint, between abundant joyful luxury and non-attachment, between magnetizing love and expressing it outwards. The heart also possesses the capacity to heal the traumas of both womb and throat and to restore the natural flow of energy between these two chakras.

When we activate our heart, we restore the natural connection between the womb and the throat. This connection first developed when we were in our mother’s womb. Hearing is the first human sense that a baby develops, even before the physical birth into the world. The very first sound we heard was the sound of our mother’s heartbeat, when we swimming in the amniotic fluid of the womb, between the worlds of spirit and matter.

When we are born, our own hearts evolve to contain around 40,000 neurons, cells that receive and process information. Thinking with your heart is not just a metaphor. As we connect with our hearts, we learn to trust ourselves more and stop competing with others. Gradually, our hearts will open more fully, healing our wombs, and helping us find our voices…

Akashic Record Readings

Most clients drawn to my work are sensitive souls who feel they have become stuck in the details and forgotten their true origins. The call to get an Akashic Record reading is first of all a call to Remembrance — of who you are at the deepest core of your being, what you came here to do, and why you are struggling with recurrent issues in your life. These readings include healing childhood wounds, past life integration, and transforming ancestral and collective consciousness energies.

  • Wow! So beautiful! thank you so much! I am here because I went searching for the throat/womb connection when I heard it being talked about on the Way Forward podcast. Alec Zeck was interviewing Ihsan Abbas. Ihsan is a Palestinian through his father. He shared a spiritual aspect of what’s happening there that I haven’t heard anywhere else. Moved me profoundly. He talks about Jerusalem being the throat chakra of the world and talked about the throat and womb’s connection. This led me to look deeper into this and I found you. You talked about what you noticed, through being a belly dance teach, in women when they loosened up their hips. I was reminded of so many years ago when I took a few belly dance lessons and that resonated in my body. So I went searching to see if there was still anyone teaching in my area and there was. In fact, a new beginner series starts tomorrow night so I signed up! Wow! I feel led by the holy spirit, hallelujah! I turn 61 on December 1st. I am grateful to be alive and open to the beautiful mystery of this life, with all of its darkness and with all of its light………. Namaste. Here is the video that led me to you, in case you would like to check it out. Ihsan starts really getting into what I’m talking about here at about 26 minutes, thought all of it is good. https://www.youtube.com/live/yhrKfl6LUiI?si=PiWp8T6I23CvI26M
