What is sacred union? If you tried to research the topic of twin flames, soul relationships and sacred sexuality, you probably heard or read "sacred union" many times by now. But what makes a relationship sacred?
Is it because someone told us that we are twin flames?
Is it because we believe we are meant to be together?
Is a relationship sacred by intention, by approach, by design, by destiny?
Does sacredness just drop on you, or does it require work?
And why do we look for the sacred anyway? I mean, isn't any relationship sacred?
These are important questions to contemplate for all of us. The answer will be different depending on our path in life and our commitment level. But we all long for the sacred. There is a drive inside of us, an emptiness, that only the sacred can fulfill — in whatever form we find it.
In my experience, sacredness is not always given — sometimes it's a fruit of co-operation between our physical selves and the Divine. As our highest expression, we are called to sanctify this world, to make it sacred. Not in the sense of eradicating any imperfection, never catching a cold and having "positive vibes only".
We make our reality sacred by intention. By taking our place in the world. A place that no one else can take, because it is unique to ourselves.
When we are not in our place, when we are not living from the heart, everything is forced and difficult. If we ignore the voice of our intuition long enough, we end up not knowing who we are and what we are doing here. And yet, there is something in our soul that keeps knocking, that keeps calling us to remember.
It is, in my opinion, that longing to connect and remember that is at the root of modern twin flame obsession. So many people want a twin flame as someone who would bring an end to their loneliness, their confusion and their sense of feeling lost. But while the longing is real and valid, no external relationship can bring an end to the situation of our own creation.
We can only find ourselves by remembering, by re-connecting to our intuition, to what matters. It is a daily choice to connect. To our soul, to our ancestors, to the vaster reality around us — nature, stars, planets, people, and the invisible realm. Without finding a path back to our own hearts, we can't expect anyone else to love, understand and appreciate us as we are.
There is, of course, another aspect to working on sacred union and sacred relationships. Sometimes, when we are very spiritually open, we ignore the more earthly aspects of our life. We have difficulties with personal power, boundaries, and letting other people make their own choices — including their own mistakes.
We may see the truth of a sacred relationship at the soul level — but it never manifests into the physical. Should this be the case, our call is to work on personal power and embodiment, rather than being in this specific relationship (twin flame or not) at all costs.
Ultimately, anyone can be in a sacred union. Sacred union is created by intention and commitment of both parties. It is based on an understanding, that the sum total of a relationship is greater than merely the sum of its parts. In others words, sacred union is more than just two people and their personalities living together. It is an invitation for the Divine to manifest through their love.
